The theme parks are decked for the holiday season, but as schools let out for winter break, expect larger crowds. Here's what everyone is out to see.

On my first visit to the Urban Deli! , we sat near an array of cheerleading and gymnastic books. (Who knew the back flip was so complex?) On my second visit, our table was closer to an assortment of Florida-themed literature.

Almost every year since 2001, we've put Christmas decorations up early, figuring we need a little Christmas early and often.

On Tuesday, it was 29 years since John Lennon's assassination, a day that still resonates in the memory of Beatles fans and others who admired Lennon's spirit of pacifism and hope. Many of us, on that fateful day, heard the news from ABC sportscaster Howard Cosell on Monday Night Football, then listened to genuinely local radio stations, with overnight DJs, play Fab Four music all night long. To keep the flame of Lennon's legacy aglow, Orlando musician Joseph Martens has again organized an Orlando tribute concert featuring a long list of area musicians, Beatles video clips and art. On the bill: Terri Binion with fiddler Jessy Daumen and Shak Nasti, Martens' own Hindu Cowboys, Thomas and Olivia Wynn, the New Lows' Matt Gersting, among others. Proceeds will benefit the Downtown Arts District.

What: Robin Olson's Dickens by Candlelight has become a Christmastime tradition in Central Florida, with a troupe of three actors showing up year after year — from a tea room in College Park to a historic house downtown to last year's performance at CityArts Factory — to tell the story of Scrooge. This year the three-actor version of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol makes it to the round, windowless, acoustically eerie Dr. Phillips Patrons' Room at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center, where this year's troupe (Morgan Russell, Monica Tamborello and John DiDonna) will do their best to get you into the Victorian Christmas spirit, complete with candlelight, cookies and steaming tea. Arrive by 7:30 p.m. and you'll be treated to Christmas carols and a cup of hot chocolate or wassail. And who can turn down a cup of wassail?

WHAT: If you're looking for rare signs of a recovering economy, they'll be sailing around the bend into Lake Osceola this Saturday. Canceled last year, the Winter Park Boat Parade is lighting up again for 2009, bringing a fleet of decorated boats past some equally festive docks. See them both after dusk, and be sure to come early for a 5 p.m. viewing party at the Albin Polasek Museum with live music and entertainment.
