Seminole County Property Appraiser David Johnson was sworn in as president of the Florida Association of Property Appraisers this month. The group provides continuing education and legislative updates for its members. It also promotes fair assessments between and within counties and works with the state Legislature by providing technical assistance and advice on relevant legislation, according to a county press release. Johnson was first elected as county property appraiser in 2004.


Celery Soup team gets office space at center

Creative Sanford, the nonprofit planning a folklife show based on the tales of Sanford and Seminole County, has moved into the city's Historic Welcome Center and says it hopes to start performances of Celery Soup in October 2010. The group has spent the past two years collecting local stories to incorporate into the show, which will change every year. Water-permit appeal still on, minus one city

An environmental group is still appealing Seminole County's permit to draw water from the St. Johns River, but the city of Jacksonville has withdrawn its challenge. The permit from the regional water district allows the county to take 5.5 million gallons a day from the river, though it could eventually take more. Environmentalists say that will harm the water body, but Jacksonville struggled to show how the city would be harmed. The county is facing several legal challenges but has already hired a contractor to start the first phase of construction.
